Plan carefully, make roles clear, do the small things right
I've spent most of my working life in jobs where a small mistake can turn into a big one quickly: about a decade in the Navy, six of those years with the SEAL Teams, then maritime security, where I directed more than 60 vessel protection operations without a security incident. The lessons that carried over into business are not complicated. They're just hard to do every day.
Plan carefully
Good outcomes are usually decided before the work starts. Before a caregiver walks into a veteran's home, we want to know the routine, the risks in the house, and who to call if something changes. Before we bid on a federal contract, we want to know exactly how we'll perform it. Planning isn't paperwork. It's respect for the people depending on you.
Make roles clear
When everyone knows their job, teams move fast and problems surface early. When roles are fuzzy, things fall through the cracks, and in home care the cracks are where people get hurt. At VETTED, every veteran has a named care coordinator, and every contract has a named lead.
Do the small things right, every time
Show up on time. Return the call the same day. Write down what was done. Tell the truth when something went wrong. None of it is heroic. All of it adds up to whether people can trust you.
That's the standard I try to hold myself to, and the one we're building VETTED on. You can learn more about the company at vettedvc.com.
